Tack:
The first
thing you need to know about your pony or horse is what your horse wears, why, and how you
put it on. Once you are an expert, you can offer to help out at your stables.
Bridle:
A bridle fits
over your horses head and allows you to control and guide him. A well trained
horse or pony only needs a simple bridle with a snaffle bit and cavesson
noseband.
Bits:
1. Loose-Ring
Snaffle, you can spot one by its circles at the ends.
2. Eggbutt
Snaffle, you can spot one by its ovals at the ends.
3. D-ring
Snaffle, you can spot one by its D shape ends.
4. Snaffle
with cheeks, you can spot one by the points at the cheeks
(If you do
not get 4. look up Snaffle with cheeks online)
Nosebands:
The cavesson
noseband is a basic type of noseband. Two other common kinds are the flash and
drop nosebands. These stop the horse from opening his or her mouth but i don't
like them so much but it keeps the horse under control. (if you want to see it
just look it up online)
Martingales and neckstraps:
the Martingales
is used to stop a strong wild horse or pony from throwing up his head while you
are riding, witch can be quite painful if you get socked on the nose. You can
hold on to the neck strap of the martingale if you are new to riding or you
horse decides to go on a mad dash.
Tacking up:
Bridle:
First take
your reins and put it over the horses head on to the neck then you take
the bit in to the horses mouth and pull it up to the horses ears.
Taking
off the bridle:
Just pull up
the ear thing off the ears, then take the bit out of the horses mouth and then take
the reins off the horse.
Saddle:
First put the
saddle pad on the horses back, then put the saddle on the saddle pad, last
tighten the girth make nice and tight.
Taking the
saddle off:
Just take the
girth off on one side then put it on the saddle and last take the saddle off
with the saddle pad
